2.21

「爾時轉輪聖王復作是念：『我身今者，喻如無智大癡施主。爾時施主值天大旱，七年不雨，樹木燋乾。時世飢饉，穀米勇貴，人民飢餓，互相茹食，飲血噉肉，更相殘害，枉濫無辜，或父食子，或子食父，父母兄弟，妻息男女，更相食噉。

"At that time, the wheel-turning sage king further thought: 'My present person is like an unwise and utterly foolish donor. That donor encountered a great drought from heaven; for seven years it did not rain, and the trees dried up and withered. It was a time of famine, grain was exorbitantly expensive, the people were starving and consumed one another, drinking blood and eating flesh, harming one another, falsely and recklessly slaughtering the innocent; fathers ate their sons, sons ate their fathers, and parents, siblings, wives, and children devoured one another.
