「爾時轉輪聖王為求佛法故，於閻浮提遍處宣令：『誰解佛法？大轉輪王欲得翫習。』處處宣令，皆云言無。到一邊小國中，有一婆羅門解知佛法。爾時使者逕往詣彼，至婆羅門所，問言：『大德解佛法耶？』答言：『解也。』

"Then, in order to seek the Buddha-Dharma, the wheel-turning king made a proclamation everywhere throughout Jambudvīpa: 'Who understands the Buddha-Dharma? The great wheel-turning king wishes to practice and study it.' The proclamation was made everywhere, but all said there was no such person. Arriving in a remote small country, there was a brāhmaṇa who understood and knew the Buddha-Dharma. Thereupon, the messenger went straight to him, arrived at the brāhmaṇa's place, and asked: 'Does the Venerable One understand the Buddha-Dharma?' He replied: 'I understand it.'
