2.35

「爾時，大王白大師言：『欲須何物？』婆羅門言：『與我供養。』王言：『所須供養為是何物？衣被飲食耶？金銀珍寶耶？』婆羅門言：『吾不須如是供養。』王言：『若不須如是供養者，象馬車乘耶？國城妻子耶？音樂倡伎耶？』婆羅門言：『吾都不用如是供養也。若能就王身上，剜作千瘡，灌滿膏油，安施燈炷，燃以供養者，吾當為汝解說佛法。若不能者，吾欲起去。』王未答頃，尋下高座。

"Then the great king said to the great master: 'What is it that you require?' The brāhmaṇa said: 'Give me offerings.' The king said: 'What kind of offerings do you require? Is it clothing, bedding, food, and drink? Or gold, silver, and precious gems?' The brāhmaṇa said: 'I do not require such offerings.' The king said: 'If you do not require such offerings, is it elephants, horses, and carriages? Or the state, its cities, wives, and children? Or music and entertainers?' The brāhmaṇa said: 'I have no use for any such offerings at all. If you can make a thousand incisions on the king's body, fill them with oil, place lamp wicks in them, and light them as an offering, then I will explain the Buddha-Dharma for you. If you cannot, I wish to get up and leave.' Before the king could reply, he immediately descended from the high seat.
