3.19

「爾時大王身嬰重病，苦惱顦顇，命在旦夕。忍辱太子往告諸臣：『父王困篤，今當奈何？』諸臣聞已，心生瞋恚，報太子言：『王命不久。何以故？欲求妙藥，不可得故，是以當知命去不遠。』太子聞已，心生苦惱，悶絕躃地。

"At that time, the great king was stricken with a severe illness, distressed and emaciated, his life in imminent danger from morning to evening. Prince Kṣānti went to inform the ministers: 'My father the king is gravely ill; what should we do now?' When the ministers heard this, anger arose in their hearts, and they replied to the prince, saying: 'The king's life will not last long. Why is this? Because the wondrous medicine we seek cannot be obtained; therefore know that his death is not far off.' When the prince heard this, distress arose in his heart, and he fainted and collapsed to the ground."
