3.36

「爾時其父上高山頂，遙看其女，目不暫捨，而作是念：『我今遙觀我女，遠去不現，當還本處，悲號懊惱，流淚滿目。我生育此女未有所知，與我遠別。』復作是念：『我今住此，不應餘轉。何以故？若我女反顧後望不見我者，令女憂苦。』竚立良久，女去不現，竟不迴顧。

"Then her father went up to the top of a high mountain and watched his daughter from afar, not looking away for even an instant. He thought to himself: 'Now I watch my daughter from afar; she is going far away and disappearing from sight. When I return to my original dwelling, I will wail in anguish, my eyes filled with streaming tears. I raised this daughter while she knew nothing, and now she is parting far from me.' He thought further: 'I should remain standing here and not turn away. Why? If my daughter looks back behind her and does not see me, it will cause her sorrow and grief.' After standing there for a long time, the daughter went out of sight, never having turned her head to look back.
