如來爾時普告大眾而作是言：「提婆達多非適今世而傷害我，過去世時常欲害我。我以慈悲力，因乃得濟。」
The Tathāgata then addressed the great assembly at large, saying: "It is not only in this present life that Devadatta has harmed me; in past lives he constantly wished to harm me. Through the power of my benevolence and compassion, I was thereby delivered."
