大方便佛報恩經 4.67

4.67

佛言：「菩薩摩訶薩修大方便，引接眾生。其受生死無量大苦，不以為患。若有人言提婆達多實是惡人，入阿鼻獄者，無有是處。」如來爾時即為大眾顯發提婆達多微密妙行大方便。

The Buddha said, "Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas cultivate mahopāya to guide and receive sentient beings. They undergo the immeasurable great suffering of birth and death without regarding it as distress. If anyone says that Devadatta is truly an evil person who entered Avīci Hell, there is no such truth." The Tathāgata then revealed and expounded to the great assembly Devadatta's subtle, wondrous conduct and mahopāya.
