佛告阿難及諸大眾：「舍利弗不但今日先如來前，而取滅度。過去世時亦不能忍見我，先取滅度。」

The Buddha told Ānanda and the great assembly: “Śāriputra has not only today entered extinction before the Tathāgata. In past lifetimes he was also unable to bear seeing me [die], and entered extinction first.”
