5.4

爾時世尊告舍利弗，大弟子等諸大智慧：「汝等當知，如來不久當取涅槃。」時舍利弗聞是語已，身諸肢節，痛如針刺，憂愁懊惱，悶絕躃地，以冷水灑面，良久乃穌。即起合掌，以偈歎佛：

At that time, the Bhagavat said to Śāriputra and the other great disciples of great wisdom, "You all should know: the Tathāgata before long will enter nirvāṇa." When Śāriputra heard these words, all the joints of his body ached as if pierced by needles; filled with sorrow and grief, he fainted and collapsed to the ground, reviving only after a long time when cold water was sprinkled on his face. He then arose, joined his palms, and praised the Buddha with verses:
