6.36

答曰：「提婆達多以歸三寶故，雖入阿鼻，受苦輕微，亦時得暫息。又如人在山林曠野恐怖之處，若念佛功德，恐怖即滅。是故歸依三寶，救護不虛。」

Answer: "Because Devadatta took refuge in the Triratna, although he entered Avīci, the suffering he underwent was mild and slight, and he also periodically gained temporary respite. Furthermore, just as when a person is in a terrifying place in the mountains, forests, or wilderness, if he is mindful of the Buddha's virtues, his terror will instantly cease. Therefore, the rescue and protection of taking refuge in the Triratna is not in vain."
