"After another seven days, words were heard from people outside: 'Those who previously received the charity of clothing, bedding, food, and drink have all died from the poison taking effect.' Those who were not yet dead all uttered these words: 'How monstrous! How monstrous! Although this great donor had benevolence, compassion, and pity, providing the required clothing, bedding, food, and drink, and although at that time our hunger was sated, our thirst was quenched, and our physical lives were saved, after several days the poison took effect, depriving us of life.' Then the great donor was filled with grief, anger, and distress, and asked his wife and children: 'How did you prepare the food and drink, so as to cause a lethal poison to fall into it?' His wife, children, hired laborers, and all the bondservants and maids said: 'It was not so.' 'If it was not so, from where did the poison come?' They replied: 'We do not know.'
