The Buddha told Ānanda: “The girl at that time was Lady Mṛgāra. Because she gave a single meal with pure flowers covering it to the pratyekabuddha, for five hundred lives she was honored, noble, and wealthy, food and clothing came naturally to her, and lotus flowers supported her feet. By the causes and conditions of the power of her vow, she has now met five hundred pratyekabuddhas, worshiping and making offerings to them. At that time, because of a single evil word—failing to recognize her mother’s kindness and reviling her by comparing her to a beast—due to the causes and conditions of this harsh speech, for five hundred lifetimes she was born in the womb of a deer.”
