5.11
At that time the Tathāgata, by the power of his benevolence and compassion, magically created a Śāriputra amidst the great assembly. When the great assembly saw Śāriputra, joy arose in their hearts, and their sorrow and suffering were immediately dispelled. On account of this joyful heart, they all resolved their minds upon anuttarasamyaksaṃbodhi. Then Ānanda, through the Tathāgata’s supernatural power, observed that all the minds of the assembly harboured doubts. He at once rose from his seat, straightened his robes, bared his right shoulder, placed his right knee upon the ground, joined his palms, knelt upright, and addressed the Buddha, saying: “Bhagavat! By what causes and conditions did Śāriputra enter extinction before the Tathāgata, causing the great assembly to experience such sorrow and suffering?”
