爾時馬鳴說此偈已，如入禪定入於寂室。是名為六。如是諸經各各別說，隨機現應無相違過。馬鳴菩薩當何位人？何城誕生？何因馬鳴？頌曰：

At that time, having spoken this verse, Aśvaghoṣa entered a quiet chamber as if entering meditative absorption. These are called the six. As such sūtras each give distinct accounts, they manifest in response to different capacities, without the fault of mutual contradiction. At what stage was Bodhisattva Aśvaghoṣa? In what city was he born? For what reason was he named Aśvaghoṣa? A verse states:
