Having explained the gate of directly showing the practice of the wheel of calming, we next explain the gate of obtaining benefits from practicing the wheel of calming. That is, if a person can cultivate this concentration, gradually and progressively they will dry up the ocean of afflictions, collapse the mountain of karmic obstructions, enter the concentration of tathatā, penetrate all dharmas, and reach non-retrogression. As the root [text] states: “Through long practice and mellowed maturation, the mind attains stability; because the mind is stable, it gradually becomes sharp and powerful, and in accordance [with practice] it attains entry into the samādhi of tathatā, deeply subduing afflictions, increasing faith, and quickly achieving non-retrogression.”
