Having explained the portal of obtaining benefits from practicing the wheel of calming, next is explained the portal of distinguishing the boundaries of entry and non-entry. Within this portal, there are two points of import. What are the two? First, the point of entering; second, the point of not entering. Regarding the point of entering: namely, there may be sentient beings who enter into the profound Dharma without doubt in their minds; there may be sentient beings who, upon hearing the extremely profound Dharma, have minds that are resolute and do not produce lack of faith; there may be sentient beings who, upon hearing the extremely profound Dharma, immediately venerate it and do not produce slander; there may be sentient beings who are without heavy karmic obstructions; there may be sentient beings who are without egotistical pride; or there may be sentient beings who are without indolence. Such six [kinds of] persons enter the lineage of the Buddhas with absolute certainty and without doubt; this is called the point of entering. Regarding the point of not entering: namely, if there are sentient beings who are contrary to these six, they permanently sever the seed of the Three Jewels with absolute certainty and without doubt; this is called the point of not entering. As the root [text] says: 'Excepting only those with doubt, lack of faith, slander, heavy sinful karmic obstructions, egotistical pride, and indolence—such persons as these are unable to enter.'
