The root text says: "Furthermore, one who diligently and single-mindedly cultivates and studies this samādhi will obtain ten kinds of benefits in the present life. What are the ten? First, one is constantly protected and kept in mind by all Buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directions; second, one cannot be frightened by any māras or evil ghosts; third, one is not deluded or confused by ninety-five kinds of non-Buddhist ghosts and spirits; fourth, one leaves far behind the slandering of the profound Dharma, and heavy sins and karmic hindrances gradually become slight and weak; fifth, one extinguishes all doubts and all evil discursive thoughts; sixth, faith in the Tathāgata's realm increases; seventh, one leaves grief and affliction far behind, becoming courageous and unfearing in saṃsāra; eighth, one's mind is gentle and harmonious, abandoning conceit and not being annoyed by others; ninth, although one has not yet attained concentration, at all times and in all spheres of objects one is able to diminish afflictions and take no delight in the mundane; tenth, if one attains samādhi, one is not startled or disturbed by any external sounds."
