2.27

The Commentary says: This is the fourth, displaying the deportment. 'Eight million' is eighty yì. As for 'before and behind', directions are taken as primary, hence there is before and behind. Each sees the World-Honoured One seated before them expounding the Dharma for them; since there is no back or face, how could there be before and behind? Like pearly stars revolving around the bright moon, like golden mountains flanking Mount Sumeru, like the hosts of Brahmās encircling the Brahmā King, or like the gods surrounding Śakra. Revering the person, honoring the Way, thirsting for the Dharma, and hoping for benefit, with focused and single-minded attention they hope to hear the profound purport.
