1.47

然《阿含經》唯為發趣求聲聞乘說；般若空教唯為發趣求大乘者說，故下云為大乘者說，為最上乘者說也；《涅槃》、《法華》、《解深密》等，通為發趣一切乘者說，謂說有為、無為名之為有，我及我所說為空。故今列聲聞眾者即是為令發趣求大乘故，菩薩已發趣，故此略不標也。

However, the *Āgama* sūtras were preached solely for those setting out to seek the śrāvaka vehicle; the prajñā teachings of emptiness were preached solely for those setting out to seek the Great Vehicle—hence it says below: 'preached for those of the Great Vehicle, preached for those of the Supreme Vehicle'; the *Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra*, the *Lotus Sūtra*, the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, and so forth, were preached comprehensively for those setting out to seek all vehicles, namely explaining the conditioned and unconditioned as 'existence', and the self and what belongs to self as 'emptiness'. Therefore, listing the śrāvaka assembly here is precisely in order to cause them to set out to seek the Great Vehicle; the bodhisattvas had already set out, and hence are omitted here and not indicated.
