1.55

「入舍衛大城」者，表欲入正法大城飡無相食也。或正法如城，故《無垢稱》云為（去呼）護法城也，菩薩如守城故；或正法如城中人，菩薩如城，即為（平呼）護法城也；或入法界大城，飲無相味，為表此故，言入舍衛大城也。

"Entering the great city of Śrāvastī" symbolizes wishing to enter the great city of the true Dharma to partake of the food of signlessness. Alternatively, the true Dharma is like a city, so the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa says, "to protect the Dharma city", for bodhisattvas are like city guardians; or, the true Dharma is like the people in the city and bodhisattvas are like the city, which is "to protect the Dharma city"; or, entering the great city of the dharmadhātu to drink the flavor of signlessness—it is to symbolize this that it says "entering the great city of Śrāvastī".
