2.343

述曰，世親云，此釋展轉疑中大文第四也。謂有疑曰：「若諸佛如來常為眾生說法，云何如來入涅槃？」為破此疑，故立九喻，如《玄記》說。

The commentary states: Vasubandhu says that this is the fourth major passage in explaining successive doubts. That is, there is a doubt that says: 'If the Buddha-Tathāgatas constantly expound the Dharma for sentient beings, why do the Tathāgatas enter nirvāṇa?' To shatter this doubt, he therefore establishes the nine similes, as stated in the Xuanji.
