Sūtra: Why is this? Up to: should contemplate it in this way. Exposition: 'Why is this?'—according to this treatise, it introduces the subsequent sūtra text. Why is teaching the Dharma able to be uncorrupted? Because all saṃskṛta phenomena are like illusions, etc.; since they do not have intrinsic nature as they are seen, when teaching the Dharma one can be uncorrupted. It is not only that teaching the Dharma is uncorrupted, but also that saṃsāric transmigration is uncorrupted. That treatise answers the inquiry with the idea that because all saṃskṛta phenomena are like illusions, etc., he speaks according to reality and does not say that the nirmāṇa marks exist apart from reality. According to that treatise, the doubt corresponds to 'Why is this?' In explaining the nine analogies, they are distinguished briefly through seven gates: first, the intention of the teaching; second, opening and combining; third, the sequence; fourth, matching dharmas to analogies; fifth, establishment; sixth, questions and answers; seventh, the superior benefits of explaining the analogies. Because he realizes that saṃskṛta phenomena are like illusions, etc., he is not defiled by them; hence there is this text. That treatise is meant to eliminate the twenty-eighth doubt regarding the Buddha's nirvāṇa. The treatise says: 'If the Buddhas, Tathāgatas, constantly teach the Dharma for sentient beings, why is it said that the Tathāgata enters nirvāṇa?' To sever this doubt, that verse was spoken. What is its meaning? The verse says:
