Third is that there is a doubt that says: "It was earlier stated that the mind's abiding is inverted. If so, merit is also inverted; if it is inverted, how can it be called a wholesome dharma?" Because of this doubt, there is the passage in the sūtra, "If someone filled three thousand great thousand worlds with the seven precious jewels..." and so forth. With respect to the first [point], there are three doubts: first, if there are no bodhisattvas, the Buddhas also do not achieve bodhi; second, if there are no sentient beings, they also do not enter nirvāṇa; third, if there are no bodhisattvas, there is also no adorning and purifying of Buddha realms.
