Asaṅga says that this establishes the samyaksaṃbodhi above. Within it, first he directly establishes it, and next he concludes and explains it; this is the first. That is to say, the earlier statement of 'no self' and so forth eliminates the grasping at existence; now, the statement 'cultivating wholesome [dharmas]' refutes the grasping at emptiness. Because self and person are empty, one must dispel one's own delusional mind; because the dependent (paratantra) and perfected (pariniṣpanna) exist, one must maintain wholesome dharmas. Therefore, if one only studies existence to negate emptiness, delusional conceptualisation will grow all the more; if one only studies emptiness to negate existence, true wisdom will have no cause to arise. Extinguishing delusional conceptualisation at the gate of emptiness, and giving rise to the true mind in the storehouse of existence—only by dual contemplation of existence and emptiness is the Middle Way accomplished.
