Asaṅga says: This passage is, under the sixth dwelling of pure conduct, the third, namely dwelling for unpolluted conduct. That non-pollution also has two aspects: first, non-pollution in expounding the Dharma, which refers to the above-mentioned receiving, upholding, and expounding of this sūtra having merit surpassing dāna of the seven jewels. That is, because there is great benefit, with a resolute mind one should expound without any pollution. Second, non-pollution in saṃsāra, which refers to the explanation of the nine similes; this demonstrates ineffability, so that one does not expound that those dharmas have an expressible substance, but rather expounds in this manner; if it were other than this, it would be an expounding with pollution, due to inverted meanings. Furthermore, when expounding in this manner, not seeking faith or reverence and so forth is also expounding without pollution.
