Within the first, there are two parts: first, revealing the greatness of the sūtra's virtue; second, the perfection of the merit of upholding and reciting it. This is the first. 'Inconceivable' means it cannot be deliberated by mundane thought. 'Incalculable' means it cannot be expressed or stated in words. 'Spoken for those of the Great Vehicle' means those with determinate Great Vehicle nature. 'Spoken for those of the Supreme Vehicle' means those with indeterminate Great Vehicle nature, who also possess the nature of the two vehicles. This sublime Dharma is exceedingly difficult to measure; the aspirations of the Small Vehicle are inferior, and they cannot set out toward this sūtra. Therefore it says it is spoken for those who set out on the Great Vehicle.
