Asaṅga says: this is the fifth, the elimination of transgressions. Within it, there are three parts: first, clarifying the elimination of transgressions; second, showing great merit from 'in the final era' onward; third, showing that the essence and fruit of the merit cannot be measured from 'you should know this sūtra' onward. Within the first, there are two parts: first, clarifying the elimination of transgressions; second, showing mighty power from 'I remember the past' onward. This is the first. Because of hearing, upholding, and reciting this sūtra, one relies on practicing non-conceptual wisdom to realize the principle of the two emptinesses, and the two hindrances are completely eradicated, which is called true elimination of transgressions. Through delusion, conceptualization gives rise to bad karma and sins; if one hears the sūtra and attains wisdom, cutting off conceptualization, this means that sins arise from the mind and are extinguished from the mind as well. Because by upholding this sūtra one will attain the true elimination of transgressions, in the present one also converts the heavy into light retributions.
