本論但指三事，謂：自身、報恩、果報。偈云「自身及報恩，果報斯不著，護存己不施，防求於異事。」
The root treatise points only to three matters, namely: oneself, repaying kindness, and karmic retribution. The verse says: 'To oneself, to repaying kindness, / And to karmic retribution, one does not cling; / Protecting and preserving oneself, one does not give; / Guarding against seeking different things.'"
