2.88

無著云：「若正覺法可說，如彼然燈所說者，我於彼時便得正覺，然燈則不記言來世當得。以法不可說故，我於彼時不得正覺，是故記言來世當得。」

Asaṅga says: "If the dharma of correct enlightenment could be spoken, as spoken by that Dīpaṅkara, I would have attained correct enlightenment at that time, and Dīpaṅkara would not have predicted that I would attain it in a future age. Because the dharma cannot be spoken, I did not attain correct enlightenment at that time; therefore he predicted that I would attain it in a future age."
