The prior four in the Buddha are collectively named the Buddha eye. Furthermore, seeing the Buddha-nature completely and consummately is named the Buddha eye. Asaṅga says: "To make knowledge and vision pure and superior, five eyes are shown; in brief there are four, namely: subsumed under form, subsumed under the ultimate truth, subsumed under worldly truth, and subsumed under all types of everything that ought to be known." An ancient virtuous one's verse says: / "The divine eye penetrates without hindrance; the fleshly eye is obstructed and does not penetrate. / The dharma eye only contemplates the conventional; the wisdom eye directly relates to emptiness. / The Buddha eye is like a thousand suns, / Illuminating differences, yet its essence is the same."
