默擯等者。佛法慈悲為無刑罰，比丘惡性唯默擯之。意令省己知慚，自然調伏耳。
Silent banishment and so forth: In the Buddha's Dharma, compassion entails having no penal punishments; for a monk of evil disposition, one only imposes silent banishment upon him. The intention is to make him reflect on himself, know shame, and naturally become subdued.
