十六住中，經云「佛於然燈佛所不得菩提」，是印所取空，當下品忍。次云「如來者即諸法如義」即順能取空。然猶未說後時不得，即知未能印持故，當中品忍。次云「實無有法佛得阿耨菩提」，此明後時畢竟不得，即印能取空當上品忍。次云「如來所得法，此法無實無虛，乃至即非一切法」即雙印二空，當世第一位也。

In the sixteenth dwelling, the sūtra says, "the Buddha did not attain bodhi in the presence of Dīpaṃkara Buddha"—this seals the emptiness of the apprehended, corresponding to lower patience. Next it says, "'Tathāgata' means the suchness of all dharmas"—this complies with the emptiness of the grasper. Yet it does not yet say that he did not attain it at a later time; thus we know he was not yet able to seal and hold it, corresponding to medium patience. Next it says, "in reality there is no dharma in which the Buddha attained anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi"—this clarifies that at a later time he ultimately did not attain it, which seals the emptiness of the grasper, corresponding to upper patience. Next it says, "the Dharma attained by the Tathāgata, this Dharma is neither real nor false, up to it is not all dharmas"—this double seals both emptinesses, corresponding to the stage of the highest worldly dharma.
