未除細執者。謂二執俱生任運起者，前離分別麁執，已能成就淨信，得佛知見猶淺，細執未除，究竟障於聖道，故今顯示令其斷之。經徵意云：以何義故，要無法非法相。釋意云：由取相故即著我人等，餘文云云，可以詳悉。

On 'Subtle clinging not yet eliminated': This refers to the innate [clingings] of the two clingings that arise spontaneously. Previously, departing from coarse conceptual clinging, one was already able to accomplish pure faith; yet the attainment of the Buddha's knowing and seeing was still shallow, and subtle clinging was not yet eliminated, ultimately obstructing the noble path. Therefore it is now shown so as to cause them to sever it. The sūtra's question means: 'For what reason must there be no characteristic of phenomena and no characteristic of non-phenomena?' The explanation means: 'Because of grasping at characteristics, one immediately attaches to a self, a person, and so forth.' The remaining text is as stated, and can be understood in detail.
