4.231

正聞等者，此則聞而無聞、說而無說，非謂全不聞不說也。如《淨名》云：「夫說法者無說無示，其聽法者無聞無得。」是茲義矣。

On 'Proper hearing…' and so forth: This means hearing without hearing, and preaching without preaching; it does not mean not hearing and not preaching at all. As the Vimalakīrti Sūtra says: 'Those who preach the Dharma have nothing to preach and nothing to indicate; those who listen to the Dharma have nothing to hear and nothing to attain.' This is the meaning here.
