佛立下。釋立名之因。因即所依之義。謂金剛有能壞之義，般若有觀照之功。法喻雙彰，故曰金剛般若。其實亦約能堅之義以立，今且就用釋之，具如題中及七義句中說也。

"The Buddha establishes, etc.": explains the cause for establishing the name. 'Cause' means what is relied upon. 'Vajra' has the meaning of being able to destroy; 'prajñā' has the function of contemplative illumination. Teaching and metaphor are both displayed, hence it is called Vajraprajñā. In fact, it is also established in terms of the meaning of being able to be adamantine; here it is provisionally explained with respect to function, fully as spoken in the title and in the seven categories of meaning.
