Regarding "true preaching," etc.: when preaching the Dharma, preaching in accord with the Dharma is called true preaching of the Dharma. The Dharma is free from all names, marks, and conceptual distinctions; if one speaks in accord with this, it is preaching in accord with the Dharma. Therefore, a later passage says: "How does one expound it for others? Without grasping at marks, thus, thus, unmoving." However, in the third, fifth, and seventh sections, as well as in this place—all four places clarify that there is no preaching, but their intentions are each different. In the third, it was doubted whether the transformation body has speech; in the fifth, it was doubted whether realized gnosis can be spoken of; in the seventh, it was clarified that the Buddha has no divergent teaching; in this text, it is doubted how there can be preaching when there is no body—such is the distinction. Moreover, between the eighteenth and nineteenth sections, all the commentaries raise a doubt based on the Wei version of the sūtra. Long and Wai both say: "The doubt: Who can have faith?" Yun says: "The doubt concerning being able to have faith in the profound Dharma." Now, since the Qin version of the sūtra lacks that text, the commentary also does not recount or explain it. Now seeing that recent editions of the Qin text all contain this passage, I have briefly and essentially recounted and explained it in my notes, naming it "the doubt that, what is preached being profound, there is no one who has faith." The treatise says: "If one says that the Buddhas preach the Dharma, it is un-preached and non-preaching, not apart from the Dharmakāya." The Dharmakāya is without marks; what kind of person can believe in such a profound dharmadhātu?
