6.108

斷之。經云：「爾時慧命須菩提白佛言：『世尊！頗有眾生，於未來世聞說是法生信心不？』」此疑甚深，無信以問也。解空第一，智慧圓通，以慧為命，故稱慧命。

Severing it: the sūtra says: "At that time the venerable Subhūti addressed the Buddha, saying: 'World-Honoured One! Will there be any sentient beings in future ages who, hearing this Dharma expounded, will generate faithful minds or not?'" This doubt is profound, asking on the grounds of lack of faith. Being foremost in understanding emptiness, his wisdom was all-penetrating; having wisdom as his life, he is therefore addressed as "Venerable" (Āyuṣmat).
