From "In order to transform..." onward: Someone asks: "Since in the Buddha-fruit there are no separate forms, sounds, coming, going, and so forth, why appear to receive merit, so that sentient beings may enjoy it?" Therefore this explains its intention, stating that the maturity of sentient beings' faculties acts as the condition capable of evoking it. Through the Buddha's non-referential great compassion, for immeasurable kalpas his roots of goodness for benefiting others have perfumed the pure dharmadhātu to form wholesome habits, so that wherever there is an evocation there is a response, spontaneously and without intention. Just as the single moon does not descend and the hundred waters do not ascend, the power of compassionate roots of goodness is naturally like this. This is precisely the intention of severing doubt: If in the fruit there were an intention to enjoy, then in the cause there would also be an intention to receive and grasp; since in the fruit it is spontaneous, it sufficiently clarifies that in the cause there is no attachment.
