Regarding 'facing the sun', and so forth: Wisdom is initial enlightenment; when it unites with original enlightenment and sees that phenomena are without arising, it is called the cognition of non-arising. As the Qixin lun (Awakening of Faith) says: 'Attaining the vision of mind-nature, the mind is permanently abiding; permanently abiding is the meaning of non-arising.' Fire bursts forth and burns up the world entirely, making the six directions vast and empty; cognition arises and severs afflictions, causing the Great Way to open up uniformly.
