From "The Ratnagotravibhāga says" downwards further explains the reason for its being the cause. Because the sūtra expresses the true principle, through it one gains awakening and understanding, and relying on understanding one gives rise to practice, only then attaining bodhi. If not for the teaching, how would one know what to enter? Therefore the Lotus Sūtra says: 'By means of the Buddha's teaching, one escapes the suffering of the three realms.'
