In Sanskrit 'araṇā', in Chinese 'non-contention'. Non-contention means being free from the two hindrances: first, the hindrance of delusion, and second, the hindrance of knowledge. Free from delusion, one does not attach to the mark of existence; free from knowledge, one does not attach to the mark of nonexistence; hence there is no contention.
