At that time, the bhikṣus came to where the Buddha was. Having arrived, they bowed their heads to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him to the right three times, and withdrew to sit to one side. At that time, the Venerable Subhūti was in the great assembly; he immediately arose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, placed his right knee on the ground, joined his palms toward the Buddha, stood respectfully, and said to the Buddha: 'Rare, World-Honored One! The Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, is skilled at being mindfully protective of all bodhisattvas, and skilled at entrusting all bodhisattvas. World-Honored One, how should a bodhisattva who resolves on anuttarā samyaksambodhi in the Mahāyāna abide, how should they practice, and how should they subdue their mind?'
