"Subhūti, what do you think? If someone filled a great trichiliocosm with the seven treasures in order to give them in charity, Subhūti, what do you think? Would the merit obtained by that good man or good woman be much?" Subhūti said, "Very much, Bhagavat! Very much, Sugata! That good man or good woman would obtain very much merit. Why is this? World-Honored One, this heap of meritorious virtue is precisely no heap of meritorious virtue; therefore the Tathāgata speaks of a heap of meritorious virtue, a heap of meritorious virtue."
