"Subhūti, if a good man or good woman were to take the seven jewels filling as many worlds as the sands of the Ganges and give them in charity; and if there is a bodhisattva who knows that all dharmas are selfless and attains the endurance of the non-arising of dharmas, this merit surpasses the former acquired merit. Subhūti, this is because bodhisattvas do not grasp merit." Subhūti addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honored One, do bodhisattvas not grasp merit?" The Buddha said: "Subhūti, bodhisattvas receive merit, but do not grasp merit; therefore, bodhisattvas take merit."
