問：緣覺出無佛世，今云何列為同聞眾？答：緣覺，佛在世亦有，只在聲聞中攝。言出無佛世者，此對聲聞，非謂佛世總無緣覺也。

Question: Pratyekabuddhas appear in an era without a Buddha; why are they listed now among the assembly who together hear [the teaching]? Answer: Pratyekabuddhas also exist when a Buddha is in the world, being merely subsumed among the śrāvakas. The statement that they appear in an era without a Buddha is said in contrast to śrāvakas; it does not mean there are entirely no pratyekabuddhas in an era with a Buddha.
