From "Crowned Bodhisattva" onwards, the fifth [section] of eight lines praises the patience of complete extinction. The text has two parts: first, five lines praising the lower grade; second, three lines praising the upper grade. In the first part, "Crowned" (*mūrdhābhiṣikta*): being above the twelve Dharma teachers, it is called the "crown." The twenty-seventh [fascicle] of the *Avataṃsaka* says: "Just as when a wheel-turning king's crown prince has perfected the royal marks, water from the four great oceans is taken and poured over the prince's crown, whereupon he is named a crowned great king; a bodhisattva is also like this: when receiving the rank of a buddha, all buddhas pour the water of wisdom over this bodhisattva's crown, naming them a crowned Dharma king." This is called the bodhisattva entering the stage of the office of wisdom, which is the bodhisattva of the Dharma Cloud Bhūmi (*dharmameghā*). Becoming the king of the Fourth Dhyāna Heaven—some versions say "King of the Five Dhyānas," which takes the desire realm and the four dhyānas. "Newly entering the diamond" and so forth: through this concentration one shatters fundamental ignorance, and all things are fully comprehended. From the initial Joyful Bhūmi to the end of the Dharma Cloud there are thirty births; here it mentions only "twenty-nine births" because the thirtieth birth is the body currently received. The preceding twenty-nine births have already passed, hence it is said to have "crossed forever." "Contemplation of lower patience" concludes the limits of the cause. "A single turn to wondrous awakening" concludes the limits of the fruit. Although not yet attained, upon turning the mind it is immediately attained. "Equal" is Equal Contemplation, the bodhisattva of the eighth bhūmi. "Wisdom" is Wisdom Light, the bodhisattva of the ninth bhūmi. "Crowned" is the bodhisattva of the tenth bhūmi. These three grades of Great Beings together eliminate the conditions of the residual habits of fundamental ignorance. The characteristics of fundamental ignorance's habits are old afflictions, called "old"; the adventitious defilements of the four abodes are new afflictions. "Two truths" are the real and conventional; "principle exhausted" is the Middle Way. Attaining the active operation of these three truths of contemplation, habit energies are entirely exhausted.
