5.23

「相續假法」下，第四明相續假。文三：一標宗。「一亦不續」下，二釋。一亦不續，以其一故；異亦不續，以其別故。「非一非異」下，三順結。此如芽莖，不可言一異也。

From "provisional phenomena of continuity" below, fourth is clarifying the provisionality of continuity. There are three parts: first stating the thesis. From "the same does not continue" below, second is explaining. The same also does not continue, because it is identical; the different also does not continue, because it is distinct. From "neither one nor different" below, third is concluding accordingly. This is like the sprout and the stalk, which cannot be said to be identical or different.
