Major section four: showing the marks of propagating the sūtra. Regarding "upholding" (reception and preservation), the Great Treatise says: "Hearing and putting into practice through the power of faith is reception; not losing it over a long time through the power of mindfulness is preservation." This chapter directly clarifies the thirteen Dharma masters upholding prajñā and causing others to uphold it as well; hence it is titled the "Chapter on Upholding". From "At that time Candraprabha" onward, the text has three parts: first, a question and answer on the necessity of upholding; second, exhorting the kings to uphold it; and finally, the assembly obtaining benefit. The first text has two parts: 1. Candraprabha's request; 2. the Tathāgata's reply. The first text further has two parts: 1. doubtful thought; 2. the formal request. Within the doubtful thought there are three Buddhas: 1. seeing Śākyamuni manifest his present body, which is the Dharma body; 2. manifesting the jewel-full, which is the reward body; 3. seeing the Buddha atop the thousand flowers, which is the transformation body.
