From "Furthermore, Virtue-Wisdom" down, the fifth Dharma master. The text has three parts: 1) marking the rank: it means that moral discipline is pure, co-arising with wisdom, and abiding in the three virtues; hence it is named "Virtue-Wisdom." From "With the four immeasurable minds" down, the second distinguishes differences in contemplation. The text has three parts: first, revealing the distinct practice of the bhūmi: cultivating the four immeasurables in order to counteract afflictions such as anger. From "Extinguishing anger in the three existences" down, the second clarifies the elimination of obstacles. According to the Sarvāstivāda school, anger belongs only to the desire realm. According to the Tattvasiddhi school, anger extends throughout the three realms. According to the "Chapter on Similes" of the Lotus Sūtra, anger also exists in the upper [realms]. From "Dwelling in intermediate patience" down, the third is the scope of the rank: the intermediate grade of patient accord. From "In five asaṃkhyeyas" down, the third is the period of entering the rank. "Jātadhara" is translated here as "fulfilled," and also called "fearlessness," because moral discipline is fully perfected.
