From "The eighteen Brahmā heavens and the asura kings" downward, third, the benefit gained by the devas is explained. In the text there are two parts: first, the contemplation of the three vehicles is perfected, obtaining the benefit of anutpāda; second, scattering flowers in offering. Within this scattering of flowers there are two parts: first, scattering the flowers of the five patiences; second, scattering the flowers of the two vehicles. The flowers of the five patiences are: the flowers of emptiness and the flowers of dharmatā are the flowers of the patient suppression prior to the bhūmis; the flowers of holy ones are the flowers of patient faith of the first, second, and third bhūmis; the flowers of conformity are the flowers of patient conformity of the fourth, fifth, and sixth bhūmis; the flowers of anutpāda are the flowers of the patience of anutpāda of the seventh, eighth, and ninth bhūmis; the vajra flowers are the flowers of the tenth bhūmi; the Buddha flowers are the flowers of patient extinction. Next the flowers of the two vehicles are distinguished: the flowers of the middle path of contemplating conditions are the middle-vehicle flowers of the pratyekabuddhas; the flowers of the thirty-seven factors are the flowers of the śrāvakas. "And scattered [them] upon the Buddha" is the making of offerings. From "and the assembly of ninety billion great bodhisattvas" downward is the fourth section on obtaining benefit. The text has two parts: first, the assembly of ninety billion bodhisattvas attains awakening and gains benefit; next, scattering flowers in offering to gain benefit is explained. Where the text says "realized the fruit of the path-trace": attaining the understanding of the first bhūmi is called "realization"; the realization being able to lead through is called the "path"; the path being able to advance is called the "trace"; and the awakening and understanding being fulfilled is called the "fruit". Next, within the offerings there are offerings of four kinds of cause-and-fruit flowers: the mind-emptiness flower is the flower of the emptiness of principle and anutpāda; the mind-tree flower is the wish-granting tree flower; the flowers of the six pāramitās are the flowers of practice; the flower of wondrous enlightenment is the flower of the Buddha-bhūmi. "Scattered [them] upon the Buddha" is the making of offerings.
